The Department of Information Technology (IT), one of the three oldest departments of RCCIIT started functioning in 1999 with an AICTE approved intake of 60 students. This department inherited the time-tested expertise of the then RCC, Calcutta in imparting quality IT education and grew with time to fulfill the basic objective of formation of RCCIIT to augment the capacity offered by formal stream of education in IT and thus enhance the number of IT professionals produced in eastern India, particularly in West Bengal.
The department boasts of consistently excellent track record of its B.Tech students as far as academic performance and placement in core industry is concerned. The Alumni base is quite rich now with many of them placed in important positions in MNCs in India and abroad and some joining academia after pursuing higher studies and research. The department has a mix of young and experienced teachers - some of them having rich research profile and long experience of teaching. The department acts as a well-knit unit with good understanding among the faculty members and technical and non-teaching staff. Regular FDPs and SDPs and student workshops beyond regular academic practices bring the opportunity for continuous skill up gradation of the staff and students and faculty members of the department.
The department is on its mission to achieve further excellence by way of NBA accreditation and academic autonomy.

M3.Be able to apply leadership qualities and professional ethics to work in a team with effective communication and interpersonal skills for designing economically feasible applications.
